Olde School Historic Preservation Education presents their annual Historic Homes Workshop to connect homeowners to experts who will share their knowledge of historic home restoration. The theme for this year’s workshop is Commending the Craft. Twelve sessions offer help on topics including Restoring Wood Windows, Plaster Walls and Ceiling Repair, and Garden Accessories related to the structure and design outside the old home. Other sessions, including Proper Wood Floor Care, offer ideas for inside the historic home. A special highlight of this year’s workshop will be a session on Stained Glass Repair where you can get tricks of the trade for repairing and maintaining leaded glass.
Admission to the workshop on Saturday is $10 advance registration and $15 the day of the event. Lunch will be available for workshop participants to purchase. For the first time this year a second day has been added to schedule offering hands-on classes for topics including Epoxy Wood Repairs, Window Glazing, and How to Replicate a Historic Window Screen. These classes are $20 each with advance registration only. A vendor display area at the workshop will allow homeowners to meet and discuss their home projects with preservation-related businesses such as Wood Window Makeover and Tanner Paint, Florida’s oldest paint store.
A portion of the event proceeds will benefit Tampa Preservation, Inc., a private, non-profit organization, established in 1973. TPI is dedicated to the preservation of the historic structures and neighborhoods of the Tampa Bay area and Hillsborough County, and to the education of the area’s school children and residents about their unique heritage.
