Old Seminole Heights Historic Home Tour

Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood logoThe Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association and Old Seminole Heights Preservation Consortium, Inc. will present the 15th Annual Seminole Heights Home Tour on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 11:30am to 5:00pm.

The Old Seminole Heights Annual Home Tour is the best attended neighborhood home tour in the Tampa Bay area, typically attracting up to 1000 visitors each year. Our neighborhood has been featured in national publications such as American Bungalow and Old House Journal where it was designated the best historic neighborhood in the Southeast. We expect to have coverage of Seminole Heights in the March issue of Southern Living.

Visitors will be invited into neighborhood homes for the 15th Annual HomeTour which will be showcasing original homes which have been carefully restored and modernized. The goal of the 2013 Home Tour is to showcase our entire beautiful and historic neighborhood, and to share with others how vintage historic structures can be adapted to 21st century living. This year will include homes from some of our sister neighborhoods, Hampton Terrace and Southeast Seminole Heights. We encourage Tour Attendees to make time to visit the shops and restaurants in Seminole Heights.

As one of Tampa’s first suburbs, Seminole Heights was platted in 1911, shortly after a trolley line connected the neighborhood to downtown Tampa. The neighborhood includes two National Register Historic Districts and one Local Historic District and contains examples of almost all of the early and mid- twentieth century architectural styles. The Tour is designed to allow visitors the opportunity to see nearly every section of this historic neighborhood and to enjoy the tree lined streets and avenues.

The 2013 Home Tour will begin at the beautifully restored Seminole Garden Center at 5800 North Central Avenue. Drive, walk, bicycle or enjoy a ride on the Jolley Trolley through this beautiful urban neighborhood nestled in the heart of Tampa. Trolley routes start at the Garden Center and Bike Route maps are available.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15.00 at the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association website www.oldseminoleheights.org and at the Cleanse Apothecary, 5127 North Florida Avenue or Three Coins Restaurant 7410 North Nebraska Avenue via cash or check. We will also have tickets available at the Seminole Heights Sunday Market February 9, 2013 and March 9, 2013. Look for us at the Greater Seminole Heights Neighborhood Associations booth. Tickets will be $20 day of tour with last tickets sold at 3:30 p.m.

A portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to Francis House. OSHNA has funded many neighborhood projects over the years including the planting of Oak trees along Central Avenue in front of Hillsborough High School and new goal  posts for the citywide Soccer Field at Henry and Ola Park.

  1. Question; can you tell me if the tour is of homes not on the tours of earlier years. I’m getting old and getting around is more difficult each year. I’ve tried to attend each years tour but if its of homes I’ve toured in years past, perhaps its a chance for me to take a break and start anew next year. Please get back to me asap please. Thank You Anne
