Received this info in an email this morning from Cahntal Rullova Hevla, President of the Ybor City Museum Society:
Last evening, WEDU premiered a segment of their “Arts Plus” program that features Ybor City’s Architecture and history. In addition to the Ybor City Museum State Park, Swope Rodante, and Oliva Building, many vintage and current-day photos are included in the program. The WEDU production staff spent two days in Ybor City taking photos and filming the segment, which highlights our history as well as a broad range of architectural styles – from casitas to major buildings.
The 10-minute segment will run again on Sunday, 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. It will soon be posted at wedu.org/artsplus.
The Preservation Roundtable will meet at 9:00 am on Wednesday, November 1 in the conference room at Tampa Union Station. All are welcome to attend to discuss preservation issues affecting Tampa.
On Sunday, October 29 from 12noon – 4pm, the V.M. Ybor Neighborhood Association will host its Seventh Home Tour. The V.M. Ybor neighborhood was named for Vicente Martinez Ybor, the Spanish founder of Ybor City’s Cigar Industry. A true gem tucked just north of Ybor City and minutes from downtown Tampa.
This “not so typical” home tour features the eclectic, diverse and historic V.M. Ybor community. The event features 8 unique homes, Cuscaden Pool, and a mural-filled Service Station turned live-work space. While many homes have been restored or remodeled, they all still contain original elements that characterize the community. The self-guided tour will begin from Cuscaden Pool (2900 N. 15th Street), where guests will receive neighborhood maps and information on each of the featured properties.
